Brief
History and Origins
Vitovska is a vine with a white berry and has always been cultivated
in the province of Triest, especially the municipalities of Sgònico
and Duino-Aurisina, stretching across the coastal strip up to Istria.
The name of the vine is undoubtedly of Slovenian origin, and was often
called Vitovska Garganija. The second name is not deceiving as the bunch
of grapes, given that the shape and size of its berry has nothing to
do with the Venetian garganega. Some believe that the origin could be
around the area of Vipacco, known as Vitovlie, but this vine is still
found throughout the whole Karst region.
Colour: straw yellow, which at times can be intense.
Nose: fine, delicate, fresh, fruity, reminiscent of fresh prunes and
cherries, Williams pears and sage.
Taste: dry, fresh, smooth, not very alcoholic, with a good fixed acidity.
Very pleasant and inviting to drink.
Gastronomic combinations: it is a wine that goes very well with the
local cuisine and is very much appreciated as an aperitif in the “Osmizze”.
